The text and lecture offer two opposite views on the accuracy of the assumption which asserts the real owner of the full-length portrait is Jane Austen. While the text lists some reasons and factors such as approval of the family members in 1882, resemblance among the portrait and Cassandra's sketch, and the periods of painter's professional activities and Austen's teenager are contemporary as the main evidence for this surmise, the professor counters these specific points and presents some clues to call into question for the information in reading passage and came to her conclusion.

First of all, the professor refutes the veracity of approval of family members about the possessor of the portrait in the letter in 1882 which in the reading part is nominated as one of the main evidence. Since the lecturer states that this permeation was released by the date about 70 years after Austen's death, and those family members did not have this chance to get familiar with her before her death. Thus, that how the professor cast doubt on the accuracy of this clue.

Next, although the passage uses the surmise of resemblance features between the portrait and the sketch as a hint of this assumption, the professor doubts the truth of this claim. As he mentioned Austen family was an extended family; besides, Jane possessed lots of nieces and cousins who were similar to Jane. Especially, he mentioned to two girls who were totally identical to Jane.
Finally, the lecturer argues that this portrait was painted by Ozias Humphrey. Meanwhile, the passage presumes that as his professional period was in the same duration when Jane was a teenager. Based upon the lecturer's evidence the painting does not belong to Ozias Humphrey and a sole clue for this event is the style of painting which has belonged to Humphrey. However, since the clothing which has been used for painting was sold by William Leg, and he sold this clothing in London when Jane was 27 years old; consequently, she was an adult on that period and this portrait did not belong her.
