TPO 18- Torreya Extinction
The lecture and the passage discuss the diclination of the Torrerya tress. Although the passage claims that this tree could be survived from extinction by three possible solutions, the speaker refutes these ideas through a number of reasons which will be described in this report.
First and foremost, the passage points out that by restablishing the Torreya in its original location which has microclimate they can prevent the tree from extinction. The speaker, in contrast, rejects thic by claiming that the microclimate strongly affected by climate of the larger region. As the global climate of the region has been changing, the microclimate get dryer than before.
Furthermore, unlike the passage which states that they can transfer Torreya to and compeletly different location where it can grow reliably, the speaker argues that it is not a good idea since it has been done before fore black tree which was not a successful eperience. the speaker mentions that those back trees grow quickly and they killed another plants. Therefore, moving Torreya would have unpredictable consequences for environment.
Finally, although the passage says that Torreya can be prevented in research centers and their environment can be controled, the professor disagress by mentioning that as the population of Torreya is reletively large, they can kept them in research center due to the reason that this center has not enough capacity and does not capable of preventing this trees from diseases.
Through these reasons the passage ideas' are not beneficial to prevent the Torreya from extinction.
