The author explains that genetically modified trees have three benefits for trees and human. However, the lecturer states that these trees are not beneficial as they seem and refutes each benefit of them.
First, genetically modified trees are more likely to survive. However, the professor says that they are maybe hardier, but it does not mean that their survival chances are more. She claims that natural trees are diverse in their genetics, as result a few of them will survive when there is a new pest or a change in climate. While, genetically modified trees will not survive because their genetic is the same.
Second, genetically modofied trees have economical income. In contrast. the lecturer tells us that these types trees have hidden cost. She explains that people have to buy seeds of these trees from companies that are producing them every year, which can increase the cost of these trees a lot.
Third, genetically modified trees can help save the endangered native trees. On the other hand, the speaker asserts that they can cause a lot of damage to local trees. She explains that these trees grow aggressively and can outcompete natural trees by using their nutrient, soil, and water which can lead to extinction of local trees.
