The reading passage provides three reasons to support the idea that it is impossible for human beings to live permanently on Venus. However, the lecturer finds all the ideas dubious and presents some points to refute them all.
First, the author argues that the enormous pressure of Venues atmosphere make it impossible for permanent presence of human beings on this planet. Conversely, the lecturer casts doubt on this idea by stating that although the pressure on the surface of Venus is too high, human beings can establish a station at the Venus atmosphere. For instance, the pressure of atmosphere 50 kilometer above the Venus surface is equal to the earth pressure and it would not create any problems for the space crafts.
Furthermore, the reading passage holds the view that there is no water and oxygen at the Venues and these kind of materials should transfer from the earth to the stations. In the contrast the professor underlines the fact that the Venus atmosphere contains large amount of material such as carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid, and these materials could be utilized for making water and oxygen in the station.
Finally, the reading argues that only small amount of sun`s light could reach the Venus surface, because of the thick atmosphere of this planet. In contrast, the lecturer dismisses this issue due to the fact that locating the space station in the atmosphere of the Venus could provide an opportunity to solve this problem. He believes that the station`s solar cells could collect both the original sun`s light and the sun`s light which reflected by the thick clouds of Venus atmosphere. So, the people who live in the Venus` space stations would not have any arduous problems for producing energy.
