TPO 43- Agnostids
The lecture and the passage discuss some theories about the ways of a specific ancient animal might have lived in the past. Although the passage claims that free-swimming predators, seafloor dwellers, and parasites are some ways that thye could have lived, the speaker refutes these ideas through a number of reasons which will be described in this report.
First of all, the passage points out that because the Anostids were not big, they could live by haunting small organisms in ancient oceans. The speaker, in contrast, rejects this by claiming that these species had large developed eyes which were compeletly blind; therefore, they could not haunt other organisms. She also states that however they were blind, they did not have some sepcific organs to direct them on their haunting. So, this theory is not true.
Furthermore, unlike the passage which states that Agnostids might inhabit on the seafloor as the same as arthopods which survived by eating dead organisms, the speaker argues that seefloor dwellers do not have the ability to move fast or far distance. As a result, the occupying small geografic areas. In contrast, the Agnostids fossils have been found in large vas areas; therefore, if they were seafloor dwellers they would not neither live or run to those areas.
Finally, although the passage says that the Agnostids could live as a parasite on the larger organisms, the professor disagrees by mentioning that the population of the parasites could not be large due to the reason that they would kill their hosts. However, either the size of the fossils or their numbers reveal that they could not be parasites.
