TPO 49- Integrated essay
The article states that humpback whales navigate by using the stars and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor finds all the ideas dubious and unconvincing and presents some counter evidence to refute them all.
First, the reading states that humpback whales are clever. Conversely, the lecturer claims that this assertion is fascinating and none of its evidence are convincing. He explains that some ducks, which are not very inteligent, migrate regularly. Hence, their navigating ability is instinctly and they born with it. Consequently, this reason is not convincing.
Second, the article claims that humpback whales migrate in straight lines. On the contrary, the professor extends that they do it by using an external force, which is magnetic field. Actually, one part of their brain, which is called biomagnetite, is sensitive to magnetic field. Therefore, they find their way thanks to this part of their brains.
Third, the reading avers that they raise their head above the water, look upward, and then find their migration way. In contrast, the lecturer opposes this point by saying that some animals, such as sharks, do the same thing, but they are looking for the pray. Furthermore, during the day there is no star in the sky; therefore, this claim that they use stars for orientation is completely skeptical.
