TPO 51- strange behaviors of elephants

The reading and the lecture are both about certain elephant behaviors, which is sometimes indulged with myths and reality. The author of the reading believes there are three ways elephants characteristics are unique. The lecturer challenges the statements made by the author. she is of the opinion that all of the uniqueness is due to misunderstandings.
First of all, the author suggests that elephants know their coming death. it is mentioned that elderly elephants leave their herd and wander alone near bodies of water. Consequently, they die there as supported by many such sites. The argument is refuted by the lecturer. she says they don't leave their herd intentionally, but their teeth are worn down and as a result, they look for soft vegetation. Furthermore she argues that such soft vegetation are found near water.
Secondly, the article posits that elephants have artistic abilities. The reading notes that elephants draw easily recognizable paintings such as lion, other elephants, and etc. The lecturer, however, rebut this by asserting that human train elephants to do with repeated actions. she elaborates on this by mentioning that elephants' ears are very sensitive and striking their ears can train them.
Finally, it is stated in the article that elephants are afraid of mice. The article establishes that a recent experiment shows that elephants backed away from mice and even leaving the area. The lecturer , on the other hand, opposes this by saying that that's because mice are unfamiliar to elephants. So it's obvious for animals to avoid and cautious towards unknown thing or animal. she puts forth the idea that when elephants are get used to mice, they don't react or recognize mice anymore.
