The reading and the lecture are both about sending humankind to live on an asteroid. The author of the reading feel that this is the best way for continuing humans life. The lecturer challenges the claims made by the author. He is of the opinion that option is not practical and have many down sides.

To begin with, the author argues that law gravity on asteroids such as Moon or Mars make some good points for spaceships. The article mentions that low gravity lets spacecrafts to consider immense tools to set up a colony. This specific argument is challenged by the lecturer who belives that low gravity makes some risks for human body. He claims that living for a long time in a low gravity place causes to loosing muscle and bone density. Additionally, he says that low gravity may make bodies to suffer from many unknown problems.

Secondly, the writer suggest that vast number of important metals on asteroids could make money for the colonies. In the article, it is said that there are some rare elements on asteroids, for instance gold and platinum which are the best support for the people whose choice is living on another planet. The lecturer, However, rebuts this by mentioning that the reading makes an idealistic picture of the fact. He elaborates on this by bringing up the point that costs of mining on another planet makes the deal impossible because of increasing in payments for supplying machines, sending the minerals to the earth, etc.

Finally, the author posits that getting to an asteroid would be reachable. more over, in the article it is stated that colonization on an asteroid which get closer to earth is easier than living on a planet like Mars. In contrast, the lecturer's position is that travel to an asteroid and then travelling from an asteroid to the Earth is a big challenge. He notes that return from an asteroid is not easy because they are far away from the Earth.
