TPO 6- integrated essay
The reading passage states that communal online encyclopedias, which are the same as traditional and printed ones, although are written and edited by a large internet community, present a lot of issues. However, the professor casts doubts on the points made in the reading.
First, considering the article these encyclopedias often have academic errors, since the editor may not have complete and rigor information on the subject. In contrast, the professor in the lecture contradicts the idea and further explains that this criticism is hardly fair because there never is an academic source that is close to perfect. On the contrary to the traditional encyclopedias wherein errors remain for decades, at least it is easy to correct errors in online encyclopedias.
Second, the reading claims that these encyclopedias are the best opportunity for malicious users to mess with the information in them. on the contrary, the professor in the lecture refutes the information presented in the reading and makes the point that online encyclopedias use strategies to recognize malicious changes. first, they put crucial information in the read-only format that cannot be changed by anyone. second, they acquire special editors to eliminate changes that are obviously malicious.
Third, the author in the reading passage puts forward the idea that in some sense since such encyclopedias are edited by the whole community, some subjects may seem much more important than they really are. On the other hand, the speaker contradicts the idea and adds that traditional encyclopedias have eliminated space, but space is no longer a problem in online ones. thus, the traditional ones did not reflect the great range of interest among the people. The great variety of online encyclopedia reflects its diversity, which is its strongest advantage.
