The perceived greatness of any political leader has more to do with the challenges faced by that leader than with any of his or her inherent skills and abilities.
In life, some things control another and just like in the realms of the spirit whereby the spiritual controls the physical, so also it is in the earthly realm that the internal factors or forces determine how one would respond to seemingly external forces. An individual who encounters a snake would only be made to run for his dear life because his initiative compelled him to and also, such individual will be able to outrun the snake solely because of his inherent speed or running ability. In either ways, if such individual would be revered with praise for being smart enough, his inherent skills and abilities should be given more accolades. With this effect, the concept of difficulties contributing more to the sense of greatness of a leader than the leader's inherent abilities is flawed to a great extent
Agreeable, it is by virtue of an individual being able to achieve a purpose or overcome a difficult that the watching crowd would be able to ascertain whether such individual is great or strong enough. However, people should not fail to understand that, before any purpose at all could be accomplished, some things would have been utilized and set in place and most times, some of those things utilized has a lot to do with inbuilt abilities. Challenges help to build courage and experiences but it is through the use of inner characteristics that one can be able to tackle problems and manacles
Furthermore, challenges only stand to make a man realise the magnitude of the strength he is encapsulated with most times. For instance, an athlete would not fathom or rather, might not be able to understand how fast he can run unless he is probably made to compete with the best in the field. At the end of the race, if peradventure the athlete succeed, he would be esteemed with a sense of greatness, but not to be forgotten is the inherent ability of speed and tactics that was put to use in the first place
Conclusively, from all being said, it is apparent that, it is the internal factors that facilitate adequate response to external forces through which victory is won and also, in most cases, it is by virtue of what one has been equipped with, one would be able to dispense out (just like the popular saying "Gabbage in, Gabbage out"). If the inherent abilities are obsolete, challenges will remain insurmountable and so, no sense of greatness would be perceived. Therefore, if any would be more deserving of praise, it definitely would be the inherent abilities and skills.
