The bar chart below shows the percentage of Australian man and women in different age groups who did regular physical activity in 2010.

The bar graph depicts the portion of people who exercised regularly in the year 2010. It is primarily categorized by the age group and then further split into male and female. The data is based on the people of Australia only.

At the lower age groups, there is a clear distinction between the percentage of males and the percentage of females working out. The amount of boys regularly working out is slightly more than the amount of girls, relative to the total amount of boys and girls. Then as we look at the older age groups, there is a noticeable decline in the percentage of male until the age group 45 to 54, after which it starts to rise again. This trend is more or less the opposite of what is happening with the female side of things, in which the numbers rise with age until the very last age group, where there is a slight decline.

Due to the decline in the percentage of male indulging in physical activities, and the surge in the number of females, there is an observable difference in the numbers in the middle age groups. In the case of 25 to 34 year olds, for example, only 42.2 percent of males exercise regularly, compared to 48.9 percent in the case of females. This difference becomes more apparent as the two numbers separate further apart for the age group 35 to 44, wherein the amount of women exercising regularly, is 52.5 percent of the whole, whereas the percentage of men who work out regularly is the lowest for this age group, just 39.5%.

The above pattern continues, until the age group 65 and over, where we see a decline in the percentage for females and a slight increase in the amount of men exercising, thereby closing the gap between the two. However, the portion of women engaging in regular physical activity is still slightly greater compared to the percentage of men.
