The chart below shows the total number of minutes (in billions) of telephone calls in the UK, divided into three categories, from 1995-2002.

The chart displays the total time residents in the UK spent on telephone calls between three categories during 1995-2002.

The usage of local fixed lines had been the highest every year in comparison to other categories. The usage of local fixed line fluctuated significantly from 1995-2002, starting with its lowest at around 72 billion minutes in 1995. It reached its peak in 1999 with approximately 90 billion minutes. However, fell to 72 billion minutes again, in 2002.

National and international fixed line calls grew steadily from 38 billion to 61 billion minutes throughout the period. Though, in the last two years it started to grow very slowly with only 1 billion minute difference.

The most dramatic growth was mobile calls. It started with just 4 billion minutes used in 1995 and grow slowly to 13 billion in 1999. From 1999 residents started to use a lot more mobile calls, as it grew rapidly to 45 billion minutes in 2002.

Overall, the use of local fixed lines was fluctuated and started to decrease in the last few years. However, National and international, and mobile calls had been increased gradually over the period.
