Above pie charts illustrate the proportion of budget allocated for restaurant meals in average families between 1970 and 2000, and the line graph depict the statistics of meals which were eaten in fast food and sit-down restaurants for the same period.
Overall, the percentage of budget allocated for restaurant foods continued t increase over the period, and it was the half of the total budget at the end of the period. number of meals in both fast food restaurants and sit-down restaurants showed a upward trend throughout the period.
Moving forward, in 1970 only 10% of the total budget was allocated for outside food. then the figure experienced a gradual increase in the following years, reaching 35% in 1990 and 50% in 2000.
In terms of the line graph, we can clearly see during 1970-1980 number of meals in fast food centres increased gradually from 20% to 30%. then there was a rapid surge in the values, exceeding sit-down restaurants in around 1982 and reaching approximately 85% in 2000. In meantime, the number of meals in sit-down restaurants rose significantly from 20% to around 35% in 1980 which was higher than the other category. it showed a moderate increase between 1980 to 1990, hitting around 45% in 1990 and proceeded with a slow growth to around 50% in 2000.
