People today spend too much money on clothing to improve their appearance.

There is a saying that " Appearance makes people more succesful". Peoples always try to make them look good through their outfit. Yes, I agree with the statement that these days peoples spend more money in buying clothes to improve their appearance for three reasons.
First of all, peoples wants to make them keep in the top position in society. To keep in top position in the society, appearance is one of the most important factors. For example, if a man has a bad taste in outfit, peoples like to criticise that man and donn't want to give importance to that person. But if that same man would make his appearance more polished, he definetly would be admired and would be gained importance. So, it's not bad to spend money for clothing to keep this factor in mind.
Further, In business it is one of the fundamental needs to keep your outfit so attractive and decent. For instance if someone has a job in millione dollar company, he/she must need to be in decent outfits while in business meetings. Beacause peoples outfits make impression on his surroundings peoples minds. If he/she don't take this seriously and going their in casual outfit that will hamper the company's deals and also he/she may lose theis respective job.
Finally, appearance is an important virtue in some society. For example, in 'Garo trivals' it is seen as disgrace to make yourself not polish while social interaction. It is expected from everyone that everyone should improve their outfit to make themself looks good. So, they will get respects whom maintain this culture.
In conclusion, how someone can argue that spending lot of moneys in clothing is sheer waste nothing else.However, this is not so easy to say like this, anyone has to take consideration of above mention factors, That's why I firmly agree with the statement about spending money to improve appearance,
