Some people like to keep a record of their own experiences by uploading pictures and other information to social-networking sites. Other people prefer not to create such records. Which approach do you prefer, and why?

The prosperity of the internet has raised a trend to upload pictures and other information on social media to keep a record of memories. However, I think creating such a record could lead to some backfire.

To begin with, it could be quite time-consuming to post pictures and notes online. Nowadays, students, for example, have already been occupied with heavy academic burdens, like writing thesis and doing experiments. Especially for those who want to go to work after graduation, they have to take part-time jobs to earn the experience for their future. Thus, their schedule is relatively tight. If they have to spend extra time picking pictures, it will take additional time, which may not be able to find a vacant slot in their fully arranged schedule.

Moreover, pressure may arise from sharing memories online. It is often the case that when people post their traveling photos on social media, they would check frequently how many likes and comments they get, and they tend to be nervous if they get mediocre attention from others. Under this pressure, there is no wonder that some persons will be absent-minded now and then, which may even lead to stress-related diseases, like insomnia and depression.

Additionally, danger lies in as well. Precious memories always come with exceptional private information, such as a home address, family member's name, and daily routine schedule. Even small pieces of information will be enough for malicious criminals to target you. One of my experiences serves as an example to illustrate that. When I first landed in Singapore, I was so excited that I could not wait to share this pleasure with others. Accidentally, I exposed my phone number and name on social media as well. The next day, a phishing call pretending an authority officer claimed that I violated the covid-19 self-quarantine orders and demanded my personal information. He stated my name and date of arrival so clearly that I was extremely close to believing him. Since then, I would consider and check thoroughly before I put anything online.

In conclusion, I prefer not to keep a record on social media.
