In the past, eating avocados was not considered to be necessarily beneficial. Being unaware of their beneficial properties, people used them mostly as avocado oil for different purposes. It wasn't until recently that the advantages of consuming avocados were noticed.
First of all, avocados have vital nutrients that help in lowering blood pressure. They contain as many as 20 kinds of vitamins and minerals. To be specific, avocados are rich in phytonutrients and folic acid. These nutrients are known to be beneficial especially in lowering blood pressure.
Secondly, avocados are good for a healthy pregnancy. As mentioned above, they are known to be rich in folic acid. Folic acid does not just lower blood pressure but also reduces the risk of miscarriage and neural tube defects during pregnancy.
Lastly, eating avocados can also save a lot of money. Some vegetarians tend to eat avocados because they taste similar to meat products and seafood. In this sense, people can save money by eating the meat-flavored fruit since meat is more expensive than vegetables in general.
The Reading and Lecture are both about the fruit called "Avocado" and their advantages and disadvantages. During the past years the significance of avocado has not been truly identified by the peoples, rather they only used the oil which has been produced through avocados. It's been only recently , the advantages of avocados has been identified. The author of the reading feels that avocados contains vital nutrients which can be used for the human body. The lecturer, however challenges this by pointing out some of the counter points that are mentioned by author.
Firstly, the author argues that avocados fruits contains so much of nutrients which can be used for lowering blood pressure of the human being . The specific argument is challenged by the lecturer. He claims that , the fats that is contained in the avocados is just too much for the human to consume, which therefore results in increasing the overall body weight.
Secondly, the writer suggests that this fruits can be regarded as the beneficial for the pregnant women, as it helps in lowering the chances of miscarriage of the child and natural tube might not get defects. But this claims has been countered by the lecturer. He is of the points that, consuming too much of the avocados fruits would hinder the progress of the child during the pregnancy, as the fetus could not consume this fruit.
Finally, the author posits that the taste of the avocados is similar to that of the meat and sea products which could be the replacement for the vegetarian one to consume and also this is not so much expensive. But the lecturer challenges this points by mentioning that this fruit is so much costly that it could be as similar to buying the dozen of bananas and apples. And also the maintenance for this fruits is too much expensive.
