Essay topics:

Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they challenge the specific theories presented in the reading passage.

The reading proposes three theories about how agnostids may have lived. However, the lecturer finds all the theories dubious and presents some reasons to refute all of them.

The author asserts that the agnostids may have been free-swimming predators that hunted smaller animals. conversely, the speaker dismissed this idea by mentioning this point that predators should have well-developed eyes and having a good vision plays an important role for a predator, while it is reported that the agnostids had tiny eyes and even some of them were blind.

Furthermore, the reading contends that the agnostids may have dwelled on the seafloor. In contrast, the professor explains that they move pretty fast which is a highly unusual feature among the species lived on the seafloor. In fact, they lived in local areas where they were originated.

Finally, the reading passage claims that there is a possibility that the agnostids were parasites. But, it is reported that there was a large number of this species and therefore this theory is also dismissed since parasites usually die after they feed on the larger organisms and usually the number of them cannot be large.

From what has been discussed, all theories have weaknesses that cannot be accepted.
