TPO-01 - Integrated Writing Task

The essay states that there are some employees who are willing to get paid less in order to work four days a week and it claims that offering the employees to do so will benefit the companies, employees and the economy as a whole. The professor refutes that by saying that four-day work option will not benefit the economy and won’t increase the profits of the individual companies and will decrease the quality of lives of the employees.

First the professor states that if the companies offer the option of four-day work, they need to spend more. Because hiring new workers will cost a lot of money for their training, health insurance and they need more office space and possibly more computers for the new employees.

Second, the lecture opposes the text by saying that four-day work option may raise expectations. As discussed before hiring new staff is costly, so this may lead the companies to ask their employees to overwork or expecting their employees to do the same amount of work in four days instead of five. And this will affect the employees and the company in a bad way.

Third, the lecture states that the option of four-day work may have risks and generally will reduce the quality of lives of the employees. Because the companies tend to keep their full time employees in economic crises and this may result a low stability of job for four-day workers, also it may cause difficulty for them to advance and get promoted in their job.
