The reading states three disadvantages of the tendency of people to read less literature and novel than past. However, the professor believes that these cons are not significant and refutes each of the reading's points.

First, the reading states that nothing is comparable to the stimulation that is provoked by reading literature. The professor opposes this point by saying that nowadays there are high-quality books in the other fields same as science and history that they possess a creative style of writing. Furthermore, these books can stimulate imagination too. As a result, it does not mean that if someone does not read literature books, he does not read a good book at all.

Secondly, people tend to allocate their time to music and movies instead of the reading novel will lower the level of culture in the society. However, the professor contends that there are other sources to understand about culture. We cannot say that music and movies will lover the overall culture because first of all culture has changed. Moreover, music and movies can speak more directly with their audiences.

Third, since people are less motivated to read literature, publishers are reluctant to invest in the novel books. The professor refutes this point by saying that It is true that publishers invest less in the literature but we cannot blame just readers since it is author's fault too. Their books are hard to understand. Accordingly, novel-lovers prefer to read early literature.
