The reading and the lecture are both about reaching the north pole by E. Peary. The author feels that Peary indeed has been reached to the north pole and provides three reasons of support. The lecture challenges the claim made by the author. He is of the opinion that these explanations are faulty.

To begin with, the article states that national geography investigations can prove Peary's claims. The specific argument is challenged by the author, He claims that the National Geographic investigation was not really objective because They are close friends. Additionally, he says N.G was the Peary's trip Supervisor and their measurement take only two days and this time was not enough.

Secondly, the article claims that the journey time of Peary was equal to Avery who reaches the north poles. The lecture, however, refutes this by mentioning that Avery's food was come by airplane and he did not face any bad weather condition in contrast with Peary.

Last but not least, the article posits that Peary has some pictures which can prove his claim. Moreover, in the article, it is stated that the calculation of the surf's position in the sun is possible by measuring the shadows in Peary's photograph. In contrast, the lecturer position is that this measuring was not very accurate and the proof of his claim is not possible without precise measurement. He notes that these photos are not very clear and they are very blur to judge this issue.
