In this set materials, the reading passage state that humpback whales are migration along distance, and they use stats to find their ways. On the other hand, the listening section brings into question the reading points by providing different reasons (and examples).
First of all, the reading passage indicates that the humpback whales have a well-developed brain and they are intelligence; therefore, they are able to find their ways by stars. In contrast, the lecturer opposes this view by mentioning that the ability to finding ways by stars does not depend on the intelligence of animals. As we know, most birds also migrate such as ducks. Ducks do not have a well-developed brain and having an average cognitive ability. Also, these animals born with an ability that finding their ways with stars.
Second, the reading argues that humpback whales migrate in straight lines. For maintaining in straight lines, they need external force or objects, and they use stars for migrating in the straight line; conversely, what the speaker believes is different. She points that animals that migrate in straight lines use external force such as earth magnetic. Also, the humpback whales body has biomagnified in their brains that use for finding their ways with the Earth magnetic field. This force that animals use is earth magnetic, not stars.
Finally, according to the reading, the humpback whales have some behaviour such as the spy-hopping; thus, they see the star to find their ways. However, the professor claims that other animals have the same behaviour as the humpback whales such as sharks. Sharks do not migrate, but they use spy-hopping for finding and catching prey. Furthermore, the humpback whales spy-hopping during the day, but during the day sky does not have a star that they can find their ways.
