The reading passage and lecture have conflicting opinions what emerged Little ice age on this planet. The lecturer adamantly delineates that the author's ideas are out of date, so none of them proves anything. On the other hand, the author strongly postulates that there are three compelling explanations of this phenomenon.

First and foremost, according to professor in the lecture, ocean tidal might have played an important role for the beginning of little ice age. However, recent evidence suggests that this assumption works only in Europe and North America, so this theory can not prove it was also caused in Southern areas such as New Zealand and Africa. Nonetheless, the author offsets these points by declaring that sea currents strongly influenced on earth's weather. Since before this scenario, there was a time of warm period which led glaciers to melt. As a result, a great amount of water affected the climate and caused many disasters.

On top of this, the professor further asserts that even though it is true that volcanic eruption can send out a substantial amount of dust and sulfur gas into the atmosphere, there was not enough dust to cause Little Ice Age. This is mainly due to the fact that if dark dust were in the air, they had to strongly affect human's visual and create some unusual things such as grey or dark snow or a colourful sunset. However, there was no evidence of it. these claims refute the author's implications about volcanic activation might have created a significant amount of dark dust and chemical gas, and they diffused as clouds. Consequently, the clouds hindered sunlight and they led to a decrease in earth temperature.

Lastly, the speaker in the lecture insists that there was no time for trees to absorb such great amount of carbon dioxide because people grew quickly after this events and they had to cut down trees for corps. Nevertheless, the author counters these indications by suggesting that human population decline might have caused to start of Little Ice Age. That was why trees could grow more quickly than ever before and it led to a decrease in earth's greenhouse gas.
