Glass is a prominent material to construct buildings, although it might be very hazardous to birds. They might consider window glasses as open spaces where they can fly through them. Many casaulties of birds are recorded every year. The lecturer thinks that none of the solutions described in the reading can prevent birds from hitting glass.

First, one-way glass might attract birds and increase the number of bird casualties. Also these glasses are designed in a way that birds cannot see through them, their reflection might work as a mirror and reflect the sorrounding environment. Birds might see picture of a tree or sky in the glass. They cannot distinguish whether it is a reflection or not and might hit the glass.

Second, the stripped painted design on the glass is not also practical in decreasing the birds collision to the glass. Birds might think the openings between the stripes are small holes and want to fly through them. Also the openings between the stripes could not be more narrow. In that case the rooms would be very dark.

Third, birds use their ability to sense magnetic fields just when they are traveling long distances. When they want to go from one side of a city to the other, they just use their eyes and brightness of light for finding their destination.
