TPO48

The reading claims that recently, the population of a particular species of a frog has been decreased drastically which has severe and irreversible consequences for the ecosystem in which they are living. However, the lecturer finds all the ideas dubious and presents some evidence to refute them all.

First, the author argues that nowadays, by using large amounts of pesticides in farmlands for the devastation of insects, these kinds of frogs are subjected to extinction, because pesticides spread to their habitats and kill them as well. So the government should enact laws to forbid using pesticides in the areas near to frogs habitats. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that it is not economically fair for the farmers that are farming there to not have allowed using pesticides while other farmers do so. Actually, they will lose the market since they can not compete with them.

Furthermore, the reading passage holds the view that researchers have found ways to treat frogs that are infected by a type of fungus. By applying it to frogs on a large scale, we would able to treat the infected frogs. On the contrary, the professor underlines the fact that it is almost impossible to treat them on the large scale because of the fact that this kind of treatment should be applied to every individual frog, In fact, each frog must be captured and then be treated by this way. additionally, we must apply the treatment to each new generation, since it is not possible to apply to their eggs.

Finally, the reading asserts that overusing frogs habitats' water, such as wetlands, leads to decreasing their population since they are extremely dependent on water sources. In contrast, the speaker dismisses this issue due to the fact that overusing also affects their living conditions, but nowadays, the major problem is global warming. Indeed climate change causes frogs to extinct in the near future.
