The graph shows the data for percentage of households living in homes either owned or rented by them. This data spans across all the households of England and Wales from 1918 till 2011.
From the above graph, it can clearly be seen that the trend of owning a household has increased for each recorded year from 1918 till 2001. For the same years, the trend for renting a house has monotonically decreased for each year the data has been recorded.
In 1918, the ownership of a house by a general household was at it's all time low i.e. just over 20 percent. After each subscequent year, this trend has increased till the year 2001, where almost 70 percent of households were living in their own homes.
In terms of renting a house, it was at it's peak in 1918, where almost 80 percent of household were living on rent. Since then, it has grdually declined until it reached an all time low in 2001, where only 30 percent of households lives in a rented accomodation.
While that is true, both the owned and rented accomodations have seen a deviation from their original trends in 2011 since 1918, with an increase in percentage of households choosing to rent rather than buying their own accomodation.
