the government has to pay for this care.

Who do you think should pay for this care, the government or the family?

Old age life and care is a major concern across countries. In few places when someone in the family becomes old they are kept in old age homes where the government have to sometimes pay for their living. It is undoubtedly a question to the society whether the family or the government should pay for their care. In this essay I shall give my vantage point before concluding.

I strongly feel that during old age our near and dear ones need utmost care and concern. Many families today consider them to be a burden and hence boycott them from the family at the hands of old age homes. These elderly and old people have spent maximum time in the family raising their kids and providing for the family needs during their young age hence it certainly becomes the families responsibility to pay for their care even while at old age homes. The governing bodies pays for the maintenance of old age homes, give salaries to the nurses there etc. That should be the only involvement of the government. On the other hand, there are families who are not financially stable, are out of the house most of the time due to their work or someone who is single and does not have anyone to look after his/her parent should be the responsibility of the government solely. After all the old people might also have worked hard and paid taxes to the government during their young age. It is absolutely fine now if the government have to bear the costs of old people.

To conclude taking care of the old and paying for their needs is the first and foremost duty of the family later it can be looked upon by the government. But irrespective old people have to be cared by either and cannot be just dumped to fine their ways and means on their own.
