Method of teaching is the vital part of learning. There are different ways available for teaching. Some students prefer classes with open discussions between the professor and students, whereas other students prefer classes with lecture and no discussions. I would prefer the classes with open discussions and below are a few reasons for this.
Firstly, classes with open discussions help students to develop self-confidence. In schools, some students feel very shy and they do not want to participate in class activities. However, when teachers organize a class with the discussions, then students can develop self-confidence in themselves. For example, one of my friends always had fear of speaking in classes. But when he joined a class, where everyone used to discuss a lot about topics then after a few days he developed self-confidence in himself. Now he never feels shy about speaking in class.
Secondly, open discussions also help students to learn in a better way and memorize better. When students do a lot of open discussions then they get a lot of knowledge about the particular topic. This way they learn a lot and remember it for a long time. For instance, during my college, almost every student in my class had a lot of difficulties with memorizing chemistry formulas. Then our teacher decided to do open discussions and after that, we were able to understand it better. Hence, this method helped us to memorize the formulas for a long time.
Thirdly, classes with open discussion provide a lot of fun. Students enjoy a lot when they do discussions in their classes. In this type of way of study, students try to participate a lot. Furthermore, it provides students to interact with each other. As a result, they can make good friends also during their learning. While doing the discussion about a particular topic or lessons they can also revise the things which they have learned.
In conclusion, there are different kinds of methods of teaching. In each method, there are some advantages and disadvantages. Considering all the factors an open discussions class provide, I prefer that students should be given
a class with the open discussion.
