In the past, eating avocados was not considered to be necessarily beneficial. Being unaware of their beneficial properties, people used them mostly as avocado oil for different purposes. It wasn't until recently that the advantages of consuming avocados were noticed.
First of all, avocados have vital nutrients that help in lowering blood pressure. They contain as many as 20 kinds of vitamins and minerals. To be specific, avocados are rich in phytonutrients and folic acid. These nutrients are known to be beneficial especially in lowering blood pressure.
Secondly, avocados are good for a healthy pregnancy. As mentioned above, they are known to be rich in folic acid. Folic acid does not just lower blood pressure but also reduces the risk of miscarriage and neural tube defects during pregnancy.
Lastly, eating avocados can also save a lot of money. Some vegetarians tend to eat avocados because they taste similar to meat products and seafood. In this sense, people can save money by eating the meat-flavored fruit since meat is more expensive than vegetables in general.
The author of the article posed that avocados have more beneficial properties aside from its use as oil for different purposes. The professor in the lecture, however, discredited this opinion stating that none of the author's point is convincing. He went further to reject each of the author's points.
First, the author claims that avocados help in lowering blood pressure since it contains vitamins and minerals. The professor, however, claims this is false, as avocados also contain 29grams of fat which is equivalent to 300calories. Besides, he stated that fat causes weight gain which in turn increases blood pressure.
Furthermore, the author claims that avocados are good for a healthy pregnancy as it rich in folic acid. The professor falsifies this by saying that avocados, instead, reduces milk production which is not good for pregnancy. Also, he added that babies' stomach is too sensitive to digest avocados content.
Finally, the author stated that avocados taste similar to meat products and help to save a lot of money. However, the professor discredits this claim. He explained that a dozen banana is less expensive when compared to just one avocado. He further noted that avocados require a lot of water to cultivate, whereas, a lesser amount of water is required for a meat diet.
