TPO-24 - Integrated Writing Task

The reading passage and the lecture both discuss a fascinating topic pertaining to T. rex's fossils, which is a dinosaur that was appeared in 70-million-year ago. The author of the passage gives details about the fossil. The lecturer casts serious doubts on the claims made in the article.

First of all, the author of the passage claims that the hollows in the leg bones show the presence of blood vessels. This point is challenged by the lecturer. He says that many bacteria colonized into those hollows. So, the soft organic substance inside the channels is the residue left by bacteria. Furthermore, he points out that it is not identical that this substance indicates that the animal has blood vessels.

Secondly, the reading passage discusses that the fossil contains some spheres in the leg bone of the animal. He argues that it clearly indicate the presence of red blood cells. This argument is rebutted by the speaker. He acknowledges that the iron material into the spheres did not indicate the presence of red blood cells. He elaborates on this by mentioning that other fossils which are from the same place did not contain red blood cells. Therefore, this iron material is something else.

Finally, the reading article posits that the presence of collagen in the fossil of the animal's leg bone. The professor, on the other hand, mentions that collagen in any animal remains only 1000 yr in their body, but the fossil is 70-million-years old. He puts forth to the idea that human skin contains collagen, so the collagen in the fossil may be of one of the researchers who hold the fossil's bone. Clearly, a disparity exists between the reading passage and the evidence exhibits by the lecturer.

In conclusion, the professor effectively casts doubt all the claims from the article.
